Expect Respect For Our National Heroes

Citizens of Calgary consistently show support for Canada`s soldiers, past and present, and they expect their municipal leaders to do the same.

Many Calgarians have friends and family serving their country overseas and many of these are willing to honour them with a visual display of support. A simple show of appreciation on behalf of willing municipal employees would indicate to these residents that they are not alone.

It is not only today`s soldiers who have done our country proud; our veterans defended our nation and protected our democratic institutions. City Hall must not merely extend platitudes to veterans on Remembrance Day; a substantial, year-round commitment to veterans is in order.

Sandy Jenkins advocates in favour of municipal employees placing `Support Our Troops`decals on their vehicles if they wish to do so. Furthermore, as mayor, Sandy will propose to allow those possessing veteran`s licence plates to park at any street parking stall for up to two hours free of charge.

Calgarians do not consider their fellow citizens who have fought for their country to be the `flavour of the month` and neither does Sandy Jenkins.
