Sandy on the Issues

Like other Calgarians, Sandy Jenkins knows his city is a dynamic, robust community with a bright future. However, he also knows like most of his fellow citizens that there are some serious issues which have not been addressed by city hall. Progressive leadership is desperately needed.

Sandy has made these issues a priority for his term as mayor:

Build LRT Subway Downtown

  • Downtown LRT is a bottleneck which slows entire system
  • LRT under 8th Avenue will be Safe, Fast and Efficient
  • 5-car C-trains will increase capacity and overall ridership
  • No traffic lights, C-trains faster through downtown core
  • Increased security with turnstiles; No Free Rides
  • Absolutely necessary for Calgary to be world-class city

Open up the Taxi Commission, get cabs on the street

  • Ensure elected members on Taxi Commission
  • Fight for needs of citizens instead of taxi monopoly
  • More part-time cabs during Stampede, holiday season
  • Let market dictate number of cabs on the street

Discontinue Market Value Assessments after 25 years of ownership

  • It is time to reward long-term home ownership
  • Guaranteed tax rates after owning same home for 25 years

Legalize all Secondary Suites

  • 2-year amnesty for secondary suites outside the code
  • Simplify codes for secondary suites operators

Move West leg of LRT to Mount Royal College

  • Wrong Way: Current Bow Trail plan untenable
  • We need LRT in higher density neighbourhoods
  • It's not too late! Re-route West LRT leg plan to include MRC

Campaign Finance Reform

  • Limits on individual, corporate and union donations
  • Limits on campaign expenditures
  • Accountable dedication of campaign surpluses
