Sandy on the Issues
Sandy Jenkins knows Ward 13 is a dynamic, robust community with a bright future. However, he also knows that there are some serious issues which have not been addressed by city hall. Progressive leadership is desperately needed.
Sandy has made these issues a priority for his term on City Council:
Improve Traffic Flow
- Anderson Road and 14th St. SW need to be widened
- We are "prisoners of traffic", with poor road conditions in winter
- The 37th St SW bridge needs to be connected to something
Build SW Ring Road
- Last year's deal involved the Chief and the Province
- The new deal must pass a referendum
- The deal involved land the Province did not yet own
- I have worked with and for the Frog Lake First Nation for 5 years
- I have golfed at Redwoods Meadows, on the reserve, for 23 years
- I will convince the Tsuu T'ina there is a deal to be made
Improved Recreational Facilites for Ward 13
- Only two ice sheets in Ward 13 (South Fish Creek)
- We need more ice arenas in the Ward
- Let's have lights on the soccer fields
Better value for our property taxes
- The former City Auditor found many problems
- $60 million budget deficit, should never happen
Build LRT Subway Downtown
- 11 minutes from City Hall to Sunnyside, could be 4 mins.
- LRT under 8th Avenue will be Safe, Fast and Efficient
- 5-car C-trains will increase capacity and overall ridership
- Downtown LRT is a bottleneck which slows trains and traffic
- Increased security with turnstiles; No Free Rides
- Absolutely necessary for Calgary to be world-class city
Open up the Taxi system, get cabs on the street
- Fight for needs of citizens instead of taxi monopoly
- More part-time cabs during Stampede, holiday season
- Let market dictate number of cabs on the street
Discontinue Market Value Assessments after 25 years of ownership
- It is time to reward long-term home ownership
- Guaranteed tax rates after owning same home for 25 years
