Expect Proper Consultation

Do you believe that the mayor takes the bus to work? Do you believe that he rides his bike? Do you believe that he car-pools? Then why should he expect the rest of Calgary to do the same?

Calgary is a burgeoning city which has expanded with unmitigated growth propogated by developers and acquiesced by city council. If one took these people at their words and actions, one would be led to believe that all Calgarians wish to live in sprawling suburbs and look forward to being stuck in traffic jams every time they go to work.

This sprawl and the major issues which come with it are a result of municipal leadership which does not take into account of the variety of needs and desires of this million-person metropolis. Many residents would gladly take the LRT to work if it was not so crowded. Many residences would gladly build a home in a subdivision which does not consist of cul-de-sacs and long drives to the supermarket. Many
Calgarians believe that transportation and infrastructure policies are counter-productive to the needs of a booming community.

Most importantly, many residents know that despite the continual assurances that their concerns are being heard, city hall has done nothing to suit their needs but do anything and everything requested by developers.

Sandy Jenkins knows all this. When he doesn't ride his bike to the office, Sandy takes the LRT in all its congested glory. He is surrounded by citizens going about their business every single day. He knows that the concerns of residents aren't being heard because he hears about them constantly.

Unlike other elected officials who pledge to consult the citizenry, Sandy Jenkins is already experiencing the frustration felt by many. Residents can expect Sandy to continue to listen and experience real-life concerns throughout his entire term.
